A Conversation with Patti Baumgartner, #GirlsClub Protege

Patti Baumgartner joined #GirlsClub as a Protege this year and we are thrilled to have her! She has immersed herself in the the program and has really stood out during our live training sessions. She is quick to share her experience and application of the skills being learned and multiple proteges have commented on how helpful she has been during and outside of the live trainings.

Patti embodies our #GirlsClub values of abundance through building others up around her, transparency by being willing to share her personal experiences, and being a trailblazer by being actively involved and provided her viewpoint throughout the training program. We wanted to let everyone else get a glimpse of how great she is so we asked her to share a little bit about herself. Thank you, Patti, for playing along!

How did you get into sales?

Growing up I was always told that one day I would be in sales because I had the personality of a salesperson. I never gave that a second thought until 20 years ago when I was working at a Catholic school making very little money and in the middle of a divorce. I needed to find a new job that would give me the option to earn additional money beyond my salary (commission) and have the hourly flexibility to be at my kids after school activities. A sales position was the only job that filled my requirements.

What do you love most about working in sales?

I love to build relationships, uncover opportunities, and win business!

What has been the biggest aha! moment for you during the #GirlsClub sales management training program?

Taking the Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment and seeing that my results were spot on with how I have always self-assessed myself. “A Maverick is an innovative, “outside the box” thinker, who is undaunted by failure”. It was great to have a description for what I’d inherently known about myself but couldn’t always describe.

What is one piece of advice you would give to women considering going into sales?

Don’t let gender stand in the way of using your strengths to succeed. There is no “right” way to sell but rather finding a way to give an authentic voice to best practices. One of my favorite quotes is “Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out”.

One of the core values of #GirlsClub is helping women shine a light on themselves. In that spirit, tell us one thing that you are great at.

I am a great coach and I’m able to share what made me successful as a seller. Through coaching I am able to remove barriers for my team and give them opportunity to achieve or exceed the success/wins that I had.
